A 25-year-old woman who fought off a sexual predator by kneeing him in the groin and ribs and head-butting him, is urging women everywhere to learn self-defence. Taela Jade Davis said that her knowledge of karate saved her life when she was attacked by a man near her home at Skye, south-east of Melbourne, on May 9 in broad daylight. Her attacker, who she described as an 180cm-tall man in his late 20s to early 30s with a buzz cut, surprised her from behind, tackling her and punching her in the head before pinning her to the ground.
